Analysis of mood disorder in women survivors of breast cancer

Abstract

Cancer is a multifactorial disease, among the existing types, the most affected among women is breast cancer. One of the side effects manifested in the disease is the increase in mood disorders in women survivors of breast cancer. The aim of this study was to analyze the mood disorder of women who survived breast cancer. The study included 44 women Breast Cancer Survivors aged 58.67 ± 9.13, The mood disorder was assessed by the POMS questionnaire (Mood State Profile), it is a 42-item questionnaire that aims to analyze the mood state of the participants. It is divided into six scales (Anxiety (A), Tension (T), Depression (D), Hostility-Anger (H), Vigor (V), Fatigue (F) and Mental Confusion (C), the scale goes from 0 to 100, and the higher the result, the worse the mood disorder. The inclusion criteria: being in menopause, having undergone chemotherapy, radiotherapy and being in hormone therapy, not being diagnosed with metastasis or any other type of cancer. In the statistical analysis, we used the descriptive data mean and standard deviation to verify the mood disorder scale. The results showed that in the domains of tension and anxiety the average was 8.18 ± 6.87, depression the average was 8.96 ± 10.40, anger and hostility the average was 14.58 ± 6.34, fatigue the average was 7.89 ± 6.29 and mental confusion 4.44 ± 5.00 and in the total mood disturbance of women breast cancer survivors it was 26.87 ± 33.11. We conclude that women breast cancer survivors have high levels in all domains of mood state and total mood disorder.

Biography

Naiany is Mastter in physical education from Federal University of Goias (2023). Holds a degree in Physical Education (Teaching Licentiate) from the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás (2014) and a degree in Physical Education (Bachelor's) from Faculdade de Mauá DF (2017). Specialist in Exercise Physiology from Faculdade Araguaia (2016). Currently a doctoral student in Health Sciences at the Federal University of Goiás (2024). In 2024, she worked as a faculty member in the Physical Education program at UNIALFA. That same year, she taught a course on Resistance Training and Weight Loss at CONEF (Physical Education Congress of UEG), held in Porangatu, Goiás. Her work focuses primarily on the following topics: physical exercise, breast cancer, and obesity. She is a member of the Human Movement Assessment Laboratory at the Federal University of Goiás (LAMOVH/UFG, since 2019) and the Physiology, Nutrition, and Health Laboratory (LAFINS/UFG, since 2023). She is also an instructor for the National Basic Education Teacher Training Plan (PUC/PARFOR, 2024–2025).
