Abstract
Background: Menopause is a transitional phase in a woman’s life, leading to physical and emotional challenges affecting their quality of life (QoL). Integration of healthcare technologies can transform facilities in India for the betterment of women by increasing affordability and accessibility, especially in underprivileged remote areas.
Objective: To compare the effectiveness of ‘telenursing enabled home care’ Vs ‘patient care information booklet’ on QoL among perimenopausal and postmenopausal women.
Methodology: This randomized controlled trial was conducted among 250 participants with 125 in each group in a tertiary care teaching hospital. One group was provided a patient care information booklet (group A), and another was given telenursing-enabled home care (group B). The Menopause-Specific Quality of Life (MENQOL) Questionnaire was used to collect. Following the baseline assessment, the participants were followed up at 1st, 2nd, and 3rd months, and endline assessment was done at 4th month after the intervention.
Results: After the intervention in both groups, the intensity of the perimenopausal and postmenopausal symptoms was reduced in all four domains. Also, there was a significant improvement (p<0.001) in overall quality of life among participants of both groups. The inter-group comparison revealed that telenursing-enabled home care was more effective in improving QoL as compared to the patient care information booklet as per effect size.
Conclusion: Both interventions demonstrate a positive impact on the intensity of the menopausal symptoms (domain-wise & overall QoL) of the participants. Telenursing-enabled home care was better than a patient care information booklet. It was better appreciated and welcomed by the participants.
