Title: Pregnancy induced trigeminal neuralgia- A management challenge

Abstract

“Adequate pain Treatment is a Human Right and it is the duty of every Health-Care System to provide it”, as stated by the World Health Organisation. Trigeminal neuralgia is an intense stabbing electric shock like pain that renders the patient unable to perform basic daily activities. Pregnancy in itself is a state that changes the basic physiology of her body, making it difficult for the mothers to cope up with the changing needs of the body. This combined with trigeminal neuralgia makes them suffer from malnutrition owing to severe pain, thus affecting the ultimate feto-maternal outcome. As the Drug of choice for Trigeminal Neuralgia is contra-indicated in pregnancy, its management poses a great challenge. Relieving the mother of pain and reinstating her daily activities such as eating food is the ultimate goal in a case of Pregnancy Induced Trigeminal Neuralgia.
