Title: Assessing mental health in Indian women with gynaecological Issues: Introducing the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Distress Measurement Scale (OGDMS)

Abstract

This research study presents the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Distress Measurement Scale (OGDMS), an intricately developed and validated instrument tailored specifically for Indian women facing gynaecological issues. The main objective is to provide medical practitioners in obstetrics and gynaecology with a robust tool to assess the mental well-being of their patients, streamline diagnosis, and facilitate appropriate interventions. Conducted over a six-month period, the study included a carefully selected sample of 200 Indian females aged between 18 and 60 years. The OGDMS demonstrated reliability, with an impressive Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.907, ensuring internal consistency. Additionally, it displayed validity, as evidenced by a significant correlation coefficient of 0.672 when compared to the Mood and Feeling Questionnaire (MFQ). The OGDMS fills a notable gap in existing literature, signifying a tool catering to various obstetrics and gynaecological concerns. By integrating the OGDMS into clinical practice, medical practitioners can accurately identify and address psychological distress experienced by Indian women in the fields of obstetrics and gynaecology. The application of the OGDMS promises to enhance patient-centered care, enabling targeted diagnosis, and personalised interventions, thereby optimising overall patient outcomes. It is essential to acknowledge certain limitations, such as the study's single-center design and the need for further exploration of the scale's applicability across diverse cultural contexts.
In conclusion, the OGDMS represents advancement in the realm of mental health assessment for Indian women in the gynaecological setting. Its introduction presents a valuable resource for medical practitioners, facilitating improved patient care, early intervention, and individualized treatment plans. The OGDMS holds the potential to change the assessment and management of mental health concerns in obstetrics and gynaecology, contributing to the holistic well-being of women in this specific demographic.
