Beyond boundaries: Retroperitoneal anatomy in advanced robotic gynecological surgery
Abstract
Mastery of retroperitoneal anatomy is central to achieving excellence in complex gynecological surgery. With the expansion of robotic platforms, surgeons are now able to navigate intricate pelvic spaces with unmatched precision. However, surgical success relies not only on technology but also on a deep anatomical understanding that transcends conventional boundaries. This keynote will explore the critical role of retroperitoneal anatomy in advancing robotic gynecologic surgery, emphasizing its application in hysterectomy, excision of deep endometriosis, myomectomy, sacrocolpopexy, and complex reconstructive procedures.
Content Overview:
- Stepwise anatomical mapping of the retroperitoneal compartments relevant to gynecologic surgery
- Identification and preservation of vital structures including ureters, major vessels, and pelvic nerves
- Strategies for safe dissection in distorted anatomy (severe endometriosis, large fibroids, adhesive disease)
- Case-based demonstrations highlighting robotic techniques that expand surgical possibilities
- Pearls, pitfalls, and complication management from high-volume surgical experience
By moving “beyond boundaries,” robotic surgeons can transform challenging pathology into manageable procedures through precise retroperitoneal dissection. This session aims to equip attendees with practical insights and advanced anatomical knowledge to elevate their surgical practice and improve patient outcomes.
