Anaesthetic course in a rare case of lupus vasculitis presenting as mononeuritis multiplex for caesarean section
Abstract
The term Mononeuritis Multiplex (MNM) Complex is used to describe myriad groups of disorders that share a common presentation characterized by painful, multifocal, asymmetrical peripheral neuropathy affecting sensory and motor nerves. Vasculitic origin accounts for most multifocal neuropathy presenting patterns. There are no established guidelines for anaesthesia in vasculitic neuropathies. Due consideration should be given in evaluating other systems carefully in patients with peripheral neuropathic disorder as they maybe harbinger of the systemic neurologic disorder. This case report features an uneventful anaesthetic course of a 37yr old G2P1L1 with Mononeuritis Multiplex, Charcot’s arthropathy and Hypothyroidism scheduled for elective LSCS under Sub arachnoid block. To conclude regional anaesthesia outweighed any theoretical risk and avoided post operative pulmonary complications associated with general anaesthesia.
